How to Use this Luggage Size Checker
The online checker is quite easy to use, here is what you need to do:
- Select the wanted unit system as metric (kg, cm) or imperial (lb, in)
- Specify whether the flight will be international or US domestic
- Select the name of airline
- Specify the type of baggage as checked, carry-on or personal item
- Enter the required baggage data (weight, length, width, depth)
- Press the ‘Check’ button to confirm if the baggage is within the airline limits
Many of the airlines don’t provide any weight or dimension limits for the personal item, so that’s communicated in the result.
Ensure to fill-in all the required baggage data with accurate numbers to get a reliable check. If any data is missing, no check will be performed.
Of course, it’s imperative to always double check the airline’s official baggage policies before booking any flight.
In case you’re not sure about your baggage weight, you can measure it using a luggage scale.
The List of Included Airlines
The online tool will allow you to check whether a Luggage size is within the airline’s limit. This can be done for 99 airlines for international travel and 13 airlines for travel within the US.
For international travel, we added only the most popular airlines since there are over 5000 out there. Some of the airlines included are Ryanair, easyJet, British Airways, Air Canada, Wizz Air, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines and KLM.
For US domestic flights, we added all the major airlines. They include the following: Alaska Airlines, Allegiant Air, American Airlines, Avelo Airlines, Breeze Airways, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, and United Airlines.
How the Luggage Size Checker Works
For each airline, we compiled the list of all baggage size limits (weight and dimensions) they provide for each of checked baggage, carry-on baggage and personal item (when available). Here is a brief elaboration on each of those baggage types:
- Checked baggage (hold luggage): the bag you drop off at the flight check-in counter to be transported in the aircraft storage area.
- Carry-on baggage (hand luggage): the main bag(s) you take with you to the plane to be stored in the overhead bins.
- Personal item (personal luggage): a smaller item or bag such as a laptop bag or briefcase which you can take with you to the plane in addition to the main bag(s) to be stored under the front seat.
The tool here simply compares your luggage size input to the airline’s limit. It will tell you whether the bag size is within the limit or not. If the size doesn’t pass, it will tell you which number exactly is over the limit (so you know what to fix).
Keep in mind that some of the limits vary based on the ticket class and/or flight route. So, we included a check for that as needed in order to have an accurate result.

Also, it’s worth mentioning that almost all airlines enforce a linear dimension (total of length, width and depth) for checked baggage rather than separate dimensions. And the number is typically 158 cm or 62″.
Please note we chose not to include a weight input field for checked baggage. Because that number can vary significantly for the same airline based on the ticket class and/or flight route not to mention the free allowance versus paid baggage.
The only airline where we included a weight field is Southwest airlines. It’s the sole US domestic airline that provides free checked baggage (two to be precise).
For your convenience, here is the typical free allowance of checked baggage for international travel by class:
Typical Free Allowance of Checked Baggage for International Travel | |
---|---|
Flight Class | Baggage Weight (kg) |
Economy | 20, 23, 25 |
Business/First | 23, 30, 32 |
Please note the maximum allowed weight for a single checked baggage is always 32 kg, not matter what class you travel on. This is a bag rule set by IATA (The International Air Transport Association).

We hope the above luggage size checker was helpful for planning for your next air trip.
